WA PERFORMANCE CHAMPIONSHIP - St. MARY'S SCHOOL
This was not part of the Boyup Festival, but was the major
components of the WA Championships. Three categories were
contested, Original Humorous, Original Serious
and Traditional. With an audience of about 120, this
was a showcase of some very talented writers and performers.
Although nerves occasionally caused a few memory losses, the
audience were very supportive and appreciative of the talent
before them. The Parents and Friends of the School took
the opportunity to have a tea and cakes stall which was well
patronised.
Sunday 21st.

BIG SUNDAY
BUSH POETS BREAKFAST
The biggest Bush Poetry event in WA.
-
With an eager audience of well over 2000, over half of whom arrived
before the start time of 7am, this was again a great mixture of
local and imported talent. The audience were treated to
almost 3 hours of a mixture of classical and contemporary
poetry, both humorous and serious, some delightful stories and a
lot of patriotism, which was very well received.
Written
Poetry Competition
Both Novice and Open Sections
had a quite large number of entries.
Once again, the Open section was of a very high standard and
the judge had considerable difficulty deciding on a winner.
The Novice section however included only 2 poems that were
of a sufficiently high standard to achieve recognition, the
winner being an unusual style in which alternate verses jumped
from the present to the past.
The main problem was, as always, an inability on the part of the
poets to achieve consistency of metre. There were also
several entries with quite poor layout making it difficult to
read. Hooray! no free verse entries this year.
We all look forward to another great weekend
next year
Thanks to Bill and his helpers for a great programme and
to Irene and Brian for the competition |
