Thomas Henry (Crosscut)  Wilson

Born: 14 Feb 1867 Newtown, New South Wales

Died: 10 Jan 1925 Perth, Western Australia

Biography:

Thomas was the youngest in a family of seven children. Although claiming to have been born in Kent, England, he was in fact born in Sydney, New South Wales. In 1895 he moved to Western Australia where he lived for the last 31 years of his life.

In his early days in WA, he was working on the goldfields around Laverton

In his early time in Western Australia, he became friendly (both in a literary and personal sense) with Henry Lawson who visited Western Australia in 1896

Some of Wilson's early poetry was published in the Bulletin and later in the Kalgoorlie Sun. His verse was often inspired by current affairs.   He also wrote for the Sunday Times

Wilson joined the AIF in 1915 at age 47, although he stated his age as 39. He served at Gallipoli before returning to Australia in 1916 and being discharged as being too old. Several of his later poems were inspired by this period of military service.

The information contained with his writings and on his Official war record give conflicting accounts of the details of his life.

He is known to have written over 160 poems,  published 69 poetic items
