Biography:
Francis lived in South Australia until about 1893 during which time he
was "home schooled" by his father, a preacher. Later he had a variety
of jobs ranging from woolpicker, to office worker.
He then spent about a year in Broken Hill, again having a variety of
occupations, photographer, prospector, clerk before heading west to
the newly discovered eastern goldfields of Western Australia
Ophel published verse in the Kalgoorlie Sun under the name
'Prospect Good' while he was working in Western Australia.
